Executive Director, Real Estate & Property Management

Wilfrid Laurier University is poised to meet its future with vision, energy, and optimism. Excellence in education and research supports an academic community addressing critical business, economic, social, and environmental challenges. With 17,000 students and 1,800 faculty and staff across locations in Waterloo, Brantford, Kitchener, and Toronto, Laurier is a mid-sized university with small-school strengths: experiential programming, engaged alumni, high levels of student satisfaction, and a unique culture inspiring lives of leadership and purpose.
Reporting to the VP Finance & Administration, the University’s first Executive Director Real Estate & Property Management will be responsible for strategic direction and implementation of land banking, real estate acquisition, real estate management, and real estate partnerships for the University. You will lead the development and implementation of a land banking strategy in support of the Campus Master Plan and the University’s growth plans, provide proactive advice to the University and the Board, optimize the University’s multi million investments in and use of real estate and property assets, and lead the formation of a business case to create an independent corporate entity that will hold and manage the University’s real estate and property, and if the case is compelling, possibly transition into the corporation’s first CEO role.
As the ideal candidate, you will bring experience in a senior leadership position where you have been responsible for real estate and real estate development for a large multi-site organization. You have keen financial and business acumen and you are able to be strategic in your analysis and results-focused in your implementation. You bring exceptional relationship building skills and you can connect with diverse stakeholder groups including local government, developers and property owners to negotiate agreements in support of strategic priorities.
