In today's world we are becoming increasingly
aware that we have to make changes to the way we live, work and do
business in order to sustain the planet we live on. All businesses
are reviewing the way they maintain their property, use and conserve
resources, handle waste materials and provide a safe and healthy
workplace for employees. BOMA Nova Scotia would like to recognize the
efforts of our member companies and thus have introduced the BOMA
Nova Scotia Environmental Challenge.
Two Ways to 'Take the Challenge'
•Participation in the BOMA Go Green/BOMA Go Green Plus Program
Go Green is a unique national
environmental recognition and certification program for commercial
buildings in Canada, designed, developed and administered by the
Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA) in
partnership with BOMA local associations across the country. It is
designed to assist building owners in resource conservation,
recognize environmental leadership in Canada, and have a significant
impact on the commercial real estate industry's approach to
environmental issues.
It is an industry “best practices” model, with a requirement to
meet the ten minimum best practice criteria, in five key
environmental areas; Resource Consumption, Waste reduction &
Recycling, Building Materials, Interior Environment and Tenant
Awareness.
See our Go Green page for more information.
• Participation in the Recognition of Environmental Stewardship Program
This program was designed to recognize those organizations that
have put initiatives in place which limit their environmental impact
on the world in which they live and work. We are looking to
acknowledge both Manager and Supplier member companies that have
developed their environmental philosophies to include issues that
not only affect their facilities, but also how they conduct their
business. Their environmental awareness transcends the requirement
to be profitable and acknowledges a need to be more responsible.
Watch for applications early in 2008.
